Sand Casting Process Flowchart
Sand casting, also referred to as sand molding casting, primarily uses sand as the mold material to create castings. This method involves several steps, including the preparation of sand molds, melting of metal, pouring, cooling, and the subsequent cleaning process. Sand molds are crafted from a blend of sand and binders, offering excellent permeability and plasticity, which allows them to meet the production requirements for complex-shaped castings.
Taiyuan SIMIS Investment Casting Co., Ltd. persistently refines the sand casting process to ensure that the accuracy and surface quality of the castings achieve industry-leading standards.
Sand Mold Preparation
Using coated sand molding, three-dimensional vibration compaction process ensures cavity density > 1.6g/cm³
Alloy Melting
Equipped with medium frequency induction furnaces (2t-10t capacity), implementing online monitoring of spectral composition, typical pouring temperatures are controlled according to material differences (gray cast iron 1380-1420°C, cast steel 1600-1650°C)
Pouring System
Using bottom gating or stepped gating design, gate speed is controlled at 0.5-2.5m/s, pouring time calculation formula t=K√W (K: casting coefficient 0.8-1.5)
Solidification Control
Through gating system design and chill cooling process to eliminate shrinkage defects
Post-Processing
Equipped with vibrating sand removal machine + sandblasting room (pressure 0.6-0.8MPa), achieving casting surface roughness Ra≤25μm
Quality
Certified by ISO9001:2015 system, key components undergo X-ray inspection (in compliance with ASTM E186 standard)
Application
The sand casting process plays an important role in various industries, including automotive manufacturing, mechanical processing, shipbuilding, aerospace, railway transportation, construction engineering, agricultural machinery, and heavy equipment.
